On Saturday February 10th, The Wall Street Journal reported that Amazon is preparing to launch a delivery service for businesses.
Amazon.com Inc. may have ambitions to compete against FedEx Corp. and the United Parcel Service Inc. with its own shipping business. But the online retail giant is a long way from reaching the scale of America’s freight titans and/or even think about its ambitions to compete in Europe.
As mentioned by Jeff Berman in Logistics Management in May 2016, when FedEx acquisition of TNT was made official, the restructuring of its management team and investments into its people, processes, IT systems and operations are still not on the level to compete with UPS, DHL, DPD and other ‘last mile’ delivery companies in Europe. In 2016 the merger was good for FedEx, TNT, and in the end for the European consumers as well. Having that said; they are still not the third player to complete the European market when we look at their delivery performance, rates and customer service levels.
